Excerpt from Chapter 1
“Sometimes the world shrinks to a single point. Mine was a small doctor’s office. The doctor’s voice was calm, like a mild spring breeze. But his words carried the weight of an entire season of storms about to begin. ‘Diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma,’ he said. Those words began to carve a chasm into my life. Time seemed to lose its natural rhythm, like music suddenly stopping and leaving me alone with the sound of my own breathing. I remember leaving the office and sitting down, staring at an indistinct point on the floor, as if the meaning of my whole world had become concentrated there. I felt every certainty collapse. I looked up and simply asked: ‘Why?’”
A hard, honest beginning. From there came a promise: to turn fear into movement and personal experience into shared hope.
Novel in progress
A narrative project set during the New York City Marathon, with suggestions and fragments freely inspired by my own life.

Forty-two becomes a threshold, a distance and a promise. The cover is still evolving, but already evokes journey, silence and destination.

The main character is not Maurizio Romeo, but he carries fragments, emotions and questions born from my experience. Not autobiography, not pure invention: a novel.
The meaning of the project
42 is a novel set during the New York City Marathon. It explores running, memory, effort, encounters and rebirth, using every kilometre as a narrative space that opens a question.
It remains deliberately distinct from Running for Life: one is testimony, the other narrative. One tells what happened. The other explores what a story may become.
It is still in development, and therefore remains an open promise: a road to run patiently, one step at a time.
